Last night team ‘ThisBarSucks’ took on team ‘ PS 20 Something’ at bocce ball at Union Hall (702 Union Street, Brooklyn 11215).  I am ashamed to say, that we got our arses well and truly wooped.  Although we did win the very prestigious and nationally recognised ’who can drink more’ challenge.  I am not sure that I let the guys and girls from PS 20 Something know that there were other challenges going on at the time, but let’s not let that small bit of information take away our glory.

What did they get out of beating us.  Well, they got the most awesomest prize…..ever!!  They won the ‘Soul Of Union Hall’.  That is some seriously heavy shit right there.  Think about it, any time you apply for a mortgage, you can declare that owned assets include ‘The Soul Of Union Hall’, or when at a job interview, you can feel quite confident that when you get asked ’why should we hire you, all you need to do is flop it out, and declare quite confidently that you own ‘The Soul Of Union Hall’.  Truly awesome.

To make things worse, they bought along with them, their very own Sportscaster.  I just hope that his editing is as good as his recording (I think I let a few F bombs spill out onto the Bocce lanes).  Anyways, our abysmal attempt at bocce will no doubt be making it’s  way onto the electric pages of PS20Something.  Check them out, and if you are ever in a bar, and some guy in bright green pants and a collarless shirt approaches you, and challenges you to a game of boccie, you know to kick him in the nuts get him drunk first :-D

UnionHallBrooklynARE YOU READY FOR A SHOWDOWN?  Well apparantly Max and the gang at http://ps20something.blogspot.com/ are.

Not so long ago,  I attended a bloggers get together, which was held at The Bell House.  I had had a few drinks prior to the gathering, and a few more at the gathering, then a few more…hey, what do you expect, we met at a bar :)   anyways, a couple of weeks pass and then BAM! out of the blue comes an email from PS20Something.  Apparently I had accepted a challenge from them.  WOW!  maybe I should drink more, more often..  This is going to be awesome.  I mean, I get to go out mid week, with a bunch of fun people, drinking lot’s of beers….and…..I get to kick some arse at Boccie Ball at Union Hall.  There is only one other thing, that I can think of, that would make this a night to remember, and that would be a sportscaster and live streaming video.

“What was that!”

“There is going to be a Sprtcaster there”

“Awesome.  What about live streaming video footage”

“Sweeet!  I had no idea that I had the ability to stream live video from my cell phone.  Qik.com/ThisBarSucks.”

“Well, I guess the game is on”

To the guys and girls at PS20Something.  Let the games begin :-)

The challenge begins Wednesday, July 15th at 7pm @ Union Hall, Brooklyn

dellsadfaceFor those of you who have wondered what happened to my site updates, well, their is a really, really crappy computer manufacturer out there, which, for the purpose of this post, I will refer to them as ‘Dell’. My less than a year old XPS 1530 Laptop has so far, lost it’s second hard drive, as well as a broken fan and a motherboard. I have also been told by a computer technician that my motherboard is on it’s way out….again!, as the system is over heating. All this has has left me more than a little frustrated. I will keep this rant very brief, as I have been told that a Dell REC (Resolution Expert Center) escalations agent will be calling me, and I want to give them one last chance (I have no idea why!). My only advice to those of you who may be thinking of buying a dell is….don’t.

Fingers crossed, I will have access to a half decent computer in the next week.

I appreciate your understanding.

UPDATE:  I got a call from Dell, and they offered me a choice of two options.  Get the hard drive replaced, along with the motherboard and a new video card or have the whole computer replaced with a refurbished model, along with an upgraded video card and bluetooth (they do not make the XPS1530 anymore).

There are several lessons to be learnt from this.

  • Back up all, back up often.
  • If you really, really, have to buy a Dell.  Pay the extra money to have an upgraded and extended warranty
  • Learn Hindi or Filipino, or both
  • Listen to your friends when they recommend getting a Mac or HP, NOT  Dell…
